One wash is bridging the gap between seasons, while designers are reinventing everything from skirts to shorts. Here’s your guide to denim’s next chapter, whether you like to play it safe or go bold.
One of the most reliable staples you can have in your wardrobe is a good pair of jeans. It rarely goes out of style, and it’s flexible enough to take you from summer to winter, and for almost any occasion.
Though jeans have been around for decades, they’re constantly evolving, from cuts to washes to finishes. Here’s what’s trending this fall and what you can expect for spring 2027.

According to InStyle, instead of focusing on micro-trends, these classic styles will take you through fall.
Indigo jeans: Described by the publication as the “It-Girl rinse of fall,” these dark-wash jeans will be a standout this season, not to mention they always evoke a look that screams expensive.
Cigarette jeans: Tight, ankle-cropped jeans are on their way out, giving way to cigarette jeans, which are fitted at the waist and thigh but slightly looser through the leg. This cut creates the illusion of longer legs, and it pairs well with everything from pointed-toe boots to loafers.
Bootcut jeans: Forget the super low-rise baggy jeans. Bootcut jeans are subtler and more modern, worn by stars like Bella Hadid and Reese Witherspoon.
White jeans: Instead of light-wash denim, try white. Brands like Coach, Gabriela Hearst, and Ralph Lauren featured white jeans in their 2026 collections.

You can count on dark denim to carry you through spring next year, as evident in the spring/summer 2027 runways of designers like Area, Carven, and Tibi, which featured shades of deep indigo and almost-black. Who What Wear suggests pairing dark denim with soft spring shades like butter yellow, cream, and pastels.

You can expect the following denim trends to emerge in the spring, as previewed in the spring 2027 collections.
The capri comeback: Close-cropped capri jeans appeared in several collections, from ruched styles at MM6 to embellished pairs at Roberto Cavalli.
Denim skirts: Knee-length and pencil skirts were also having a moment, with designers working with volume, asymmetry, and length to spruce things up. Carven featured a dark-blue maxi skirt with a matching jacket and white shirt.

Floral details: Spring is flower season, and designers made sure to incorporate romantic florals into denim, like the painterly roses on Acne Studios’ jeans.
Glossy finishes: If you’re into shiny jeans, coated denim with a high-shine finish will be a great addition to your spring 2027 wardrobe, providing a sleek, almost liquid look. Both Gucci and Diesel came up with their own versions of the trend.
Micro shorts: With temperatures beginning to rise, you may want to try micro denim shorts, which were everywhere on the runways, too.

You don’t have to go bold to stay current. Designers like Calvin Klein and Gabriela Hearst are sticking to the basic, polished pairings of straight or wide-leg jeans with blazers and striped shirts. And you don’t need to buy a new pair of jeans. If you already have one at home, simply style it for a fresher look, and you’re good to go.
