Welcome
Hi and welcome! Love Hard Travel Often is a blog and community for kind-hearted folks who love to explore near & far. I’m Kylie, and together with my husband, Scott, we form the brand @LoveHardTravelOften. We are travel bloggers & content creators based in Seattle who are on a mission to make the world feel a little smaller.

We’re often asked how we got here and if this was always the path we had planned. And the answer is NO, we had no idea that we’d end up here. So let’s back up a bit.
Kylie’s Story
I (Kylie) was raised in the flatlands of Texas but fell in love with the mountains during yearly summer vacations. So as soon as I graduated high school I high-tailed it to the University of Colorado to pursue my bachelor’s degree. I was always a creative soul and in high school I had fallen in LOVE with photography. I went back and forth on the idea of going to art school, but in the end decided to go for a “sensible” engineering degree (much to my parents’ delight).
Afterwards I was lucky enough to land a fulfilling career in engineering Product Management in Seattle. In short this means I get to blend my engineering knowledge, creativity and business skills to lead teams to build apps and websites. It’s a pretty sweet gig and I never knew there was such a cool role at the intersection of creative work and technical work!
Scott’s Story
Scott was raised in a military family where he moved around all the time, spending many years of his childhood abroad. His family ended up in California for his high school years and that quickly became his happy place. He went to UCLA for his economics degree and was set on running a business one day. He started his career in finance but actually ended up finding his perfect fit in Product Management in Seattle (same as me!).
Our Story
As you might have guessed from our stories, we ended up meeting at work! We hit it off immediately and were inseparable from our first date. Within 2 months we were taking our first trip together and within 2 years we were married! When you know you know, right?
From that first trip, though, travel had really been a huge part of our relationship. We both found so much joy in experiencing new cultures, seeing new places and creating shared experiences with each other. So shortly after our wedding we were having a glass of wine in Portugal and came up with this crazy idea to quit our jobs (jobs we loved!), drop everything and go see the world. We wanted to experience as much as we possibly could before our next season of life, so we sketched it all out on a napkin right then and there and made a pact to make it happen.
The birth of Love Hard Travel Often
6 months after that glass of wine we freaking did it. We quit our jobs, listed our house on Airbnb, and set off to travel the world. I wanted to share our experiences with people back home and wanted beautiful photos as memories, so I started our blog and Instagram. I bought a new camera (mine from high school had become a bit outdated haha) and started photographing everywhere we went. The biggest surprise to me, though, was that as we went along Scott actually fell in love with photography, too! It’s been so fun to see this passion come out in him and have this creative outlet that we share.
During our full-time travels we experienced all 7 continents and had the pleasure of documenting the whole journey here. Life has definitely looked a lot different since we were stranded in Antarctica when COVID hit, but we’ve made the most of it through (safely) traveling the Pacific Northwest and the US the past year. It’s definitely taught us that adventure is out there, and you don’t have to go far!
It’s so wild to look back on this journey, and we’re so glad you’ve been a part of it! I can’t wait to see how Love Hard Travel Often will evolve in years to come and I hope we can inspire you to get out and explore, wherever you are.
Thanks for being a part of our story! We hope to meet you along the way somewhere. XO
