Ariana Grande Trades Her Signature Ponytail for a Chic Flippy Bob

Not even playing Glinda could part the singer from her long hair. Now, she’s joined Hailey Bieber and Gigi Hadid in embracing one of the most playful short cuts around.

Ariana Grande has ditched her sky-high ponytail in favor of a hair flip. The songstress just chopped off her hair and is now sporting a chic flippy bob.

Grande’s hairstylist, Brandon Pietsch, took to Instagram to debut her new do, writing, “The ponytail is taking a hiatus” and sharing photos of the singer with a side-parted hairstyle grazing her jawline with an outward flip. Pietsch, who also works with stars like Megan Fox, gave her the cut and a glossy chocolate-brown shade.

Completing Grande’s transformation, her makeup consisted of long, dark lashes, straight brows, soft pink blush, and a touch of highlight on her cheeks and nose. In the photos, she shows off her French manicure, resting a fingertip against her nose and lips.

The new haircut marks a big change for Grande, who has worn her signature long hair for years, either in a high ponytail, a sleek ballerina bun, or in loose waves.

Even when she portrayed Glinda in “Wicked,” she kept her long hair and only traded her brunette locks for a buttery blonde.

Now with her new cut, Grande joins a long list of stars who’ve embraced the flippy bob, including Hailey Bieber, Gigi Hadid, and Selena Gomez, as well as Brittany Snow, Tyla, and Keira Knightley, who all wore the style in 2025.

Inspired by the ’60s and ’90s, the style is softer and more playful than a traditional blunt bob, thanks to its signature upturned ends. Vogue describes the flippy bob as versatile, flattering, and nostalgic, noting that it suits Grande’s ultra-feminine, romantic style. It also leaves enough room for adding a personal touch, whether worn with a sharp side part, tucked behind the ears, or fluffy.

Hadid made headlines in 2024 when she wore the hairstyle, swapping her long tresses for it. In an Instagram video with hairstylist Chris McMillan, the stylist behind Jennifer Aniston’s famous “Rachel” haircut, she showed off the new look. Meanwhile, Bieber has made a minimalist version of the bob a signature, with a sleek part and glossy finish. Gomez debuted her flippy bob at the Academy Museum Gala in 2024.

Hairstylist Jennifer Korab says the style works especially well on oval, heart, and square face shapes. And according to Vogue, it is especially a great choice this season, as fall turns to winter, since it looks polished with relatively little effort.

If you’re already sporting a bob and thinking of flipping the ends outward, all you need is a smoothing cream and a heated brush or iron to turn out the ends. Marie Claire also suggests starting with a heat protectant spray before styling, and for extra bounce, use hot rollers, plus a glossing serum for shine and a finishing hairspray to keep the flip in place.

Grande’s ponytail may only be on hiatus, but for now, she’s making a strong case for the bob.
