There are so many incredible things to do in Nusa Penida, an island off the coast of Bali. Nusa Penida is known for its rugged coastline, insanely blue waters and pristine white-sand beaches. While the most famous spots on the island are the T-Rex beach and Diamond Beach, Nusa Penida has many more must-see places.

Here are the can’t miss places you should certainly have on your itinerary!

Where is Nusa Penida island?

Nusa Penida is an Indonesian island that is a 45 minute boat ride off the coast of Bali. It’s next door neighbors with Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan, so these islands are also easily accessible from here.

How many days in Nusa Penida?

While you can do a day trip from Bali, it is best to spend 2 days on Nusa Penida Island. Since getting between places on the island can take a while, you’ll likely have to choose between the east and west coast if you just do a day trip. In two days you can certainly tackle this whole list of must-see places.

Best things to do in Nusa Penida

1. Kelingking Beach

Certainly the number one can’t miss thing to do in Nusa Penida is Kelingking Beach! It’s known as the famous “T-Rex” beach in Bali because of its coastline that resembles a dinosaur head. Here you can take in some unbelievable views, marvel at the turquoise blue water and even hike down to the pristine beach, so don’t forget your camera or swimsuit!

Since Kelingking Beach is located on the west side of the island, it makes a perfect sunset spot. You can grab a beautiful spot on the coastline and watch the sun disappear into the ocean – it’s magical!

2. Broken Beach

Broken Beach is also located on the west coast of Nusa Penida and the coastline here is equally as jaw-dropping. The spot is known for the naturally-made archway in the rocks that has created a beautiful cove of water. While you can’t access the beautiful beach below, taking a nice walk around the cove and over the archway is a great way to spend a few hours on the island.

3. Angel’s Billabong

Just a few steps from Broken Beach is Angel’s Billabong, which is certainly a fascinating feat of nature! This spot is a natural infinity pool situated between two cliffs on the western coastline of the island, so it’s very unique. Since the calm green water of the natural pool flows straight into the raging waters of the Indian Ocean, it is awe-inspiring to witness.

4. Crystal Bay

Because it’s perfectly situated on the west coast, Crystal Bay is a great place to chill and catch a sunset in Nusa Penida. This spot has a few warungs (local restaurants) lining the beach and plenty of space to grab a seat in the sand, so it is the perfect spot to unwind after a busy day of sightseeing.

5. Diamond Beach

Diamond Beach is not only one of the most beautiful spots on Nusa Penida, but it’s one of the most beautiful places in the world! This hidden beach on the east coast has certainly become famous for its turquoise water, gorgeous moss-topped rock formations and stunning beach.

While historically you could only admire the beach from above, recently they carved stairs into the cliffside which now allow you to access the beach. Even though this spot was worth visiting before, this added accessibility makes Diamond Beach a can’t-miss on the island!

6. Rumah Pohon Treehouse

Because of its whimsical nature, Rumah Pohon Treehouse is where all your wildest childhood treehouse dreams will come true. Since it’s on the east coast of the island, it’s an amazing place to catch a sunrise and capture the perfect Instagram shot, and you can even book it to stay overnight.

7. Thousand Islands Viewpoint

Just a few minutes from the Rumah Pohon Treehouse is the beautiful Thousand Islands Viewpoint. This certainly is another magical place on the island to watch the sun come up. From this point you can see Diamond Beach and get a really unique vantage of the coastline, so the short hike to this spot absolutely pays off with the views!

8. Atuh Beach

Atuh Beach is an absolutely stunning beach on the island. Since there are beach chairs and vendors on the beach to grab a bite, it’s probably the best place in the area to have a proper “beach day.” While this photo was taken at low tide, during high tide gorgeous blue water flows onto the white sandy beach and it’s stunning. After you’ve seen the rest of the east coast attractions, Atuh Beach is a great place to post up and just relax and enjoy for the rest of the day.

The island has so many beautiful guest houses to choose from! Because of its location and the hospitality of the family running it, we would highly recommend staying at The Dagan Bungalow. The rooms were nice and clean, while the pool was a great way to cool off after a day of exploring!
