What to expect at Angel’s Billabong

When you leave the parking lot, you will take some rocky steps along the coastline for about 5 minutes until you reach Angel’s Billabong.

Once you get there you will see a striking bright green inlet between two coastal cliffs. Along the edge from above you can admire the beauty of the still emerald water in contrast to the HUGE crashing waves along the rest of the coastline.

While swimming here is not always possible, if you come during low tide and the water conditions are right you can even enjoy a dip in this natural pool!

After you spend your time enjoying this spot you can walk another 5 minutes along the coast to see another natural gem – Nusa Penida’s Broken Beach!

Can you swim at Angel’s Billabong?

Closed sign in front of the steps

Yes and no, since swimming at Angel’s Billabong depends on the tides. You are only allowed to swim here during low tide because it can get very dangerous otherwise. While the tides change frequently, your best chance of arriving at low tide and being able to swim to the edge is before 9 am.

Make sure to check the tide schedules with your guide prior to visiting and plan your day around that if swimming is important to you. Also note that if the tides are too high they will have a closed sign in front of the steps down. When we arrived around 10:30 am it was already closed, but we still enjoyed admiring the beauty from above.

If you do swim, though, it is advised to wear water shoes and take extra caution!

Waves crashing into the coast surrounding Angel’s Billabong

The easiest way to get to Angel’s Billabong is to take the fast-boat from Bali and then hire a driver to take you around the top things to do in Nusa Penida. Because the roads are so dangerous, we highly recommend a private driver over hiring a motorbike for yourself.

While Angel’s Billabong is only an hour drive from the main harbor in Nusa Penida, if you’re coming from your accommodation the drive times will vary. We paid our driver $50 USD per day for our 2 days of exploring Nusa Penida.

Angel’s Billabong Nusa Penida Entrance Fee

In 2019 the combined entry fee for Angel’s Billabong and Broken Beach is 5,000 IDR ($0.36 USD). If you hire a driver for the day this fee along with the parking fee is likely included in rate, so check with your driver beforehand.

Where to park

For access to both Angel’s Billabong and Broken Beach you can park at Warung Angel Billabong Sunset Point. From here it’s just a short 5 minute walk down some stairs to reach the natural pool. While they charge a cash-only fee of 5,000 IDR, if you’re coming with a driver it should be covered in your fare.

Angel’s Billabong Review – is it worth visiting?

Yes, Angel’s Bilalbong is absolutely worth visiting! Usually if we visit a place during peak tourist craziness it really taints our view of it, but crowds or not this place is gorgeous. Swimming here would have also been an incredible feeling, and it’s definitely on our list for next visit!

Other places to visit near Angel’s Billabong in Nusa Penida

Since Broken Beach is just a few steps away from Angel’s Billabong, it’s easy to combine these two spots in a short visit. Kelingking Beach, Bali’s famous T-Rex beach, is also on this west side of the island along with Crystal Bay. You can combine all four of these spots in one day of your Nusa Penida itinerary and hit the rest of the top things to do in Nusa Penida on your second day!

Where to stay on Nusa Penida

We highly recommend staying at The Dagan Bungalow while you’re in Nusa Penida. It’s centrally located between both the west and east coast attractions and the family running the place is amazing. The property and rooms are also clean and beautiful!
